Here are some details about the upcoming Halo Reach Beta:

Available starting tomorrow is a video introduction to the beta starring Aisha Tyler.
The Beta will be available from May 3rd to May 19th.
The beta will be accessible via the “Halo 3: ODST” game disc (an Xbox LIVE Gold membership and Internet connection are required to play).
The beta kicks off with three playlists featuring the all-new, highly competitive Arena mode (4v4 ranked Team Slayer games) as well as “Free-for-All” and “Grab Bag” playlists, which include a mix of classic and brand new game types.

Today is the day that my xbox sees new life; well sorta. Today was the official day that my xbox was upgraded to the 250 gig HDD.
After much patience and low HDD space, I embarked on a journey to get the max amount of space that is available for the Xbox 360 without paying the retail value of the Xbox 360 HDD (130.00). One Hundred and thirty dollars may not seem to be that much money but when a 250 gig HDD bare sells anywhere from 55-65 bucks, you know that Microsoft is ripping the consumers off. The process that I took involved minor labor which included getting a torx set and opening my HDD case (not console case). The end result is priceless. Check out some more pics below:

In case you didn't get the memo, the original xbox live servers shut down on April 15th. There were quite a few folks who jumped on Halo 2 to get some games in before the shutdown. Its been a while and many have been trucking away at the original Xbox live service. But today marks only a few hours where we will pay our respects and say so long to the original Xbox live. Ever since 2002 we as a community have been playing some of the best games on Xbox live: Crimson Skies and Halo 2 to name a few but now the time is nigh where Microsoft will make a shift to brings us bigger and better content on the current Xbox live service. If you have titles that are still playable on the original Xbox Live service then pay your respects tonight and play something as we count down the hours until the switches are flipped. It is a sad day for original Xbox Live gamers but a great day for things to come. Be encouraged.

Well if you watched Jimmy Fallon Last night (This early Morning) you saw a few things. First of you saw a bearded Dom (guess he didn't have time to shave) and then you saw a shaved Marcus (sweet) and then you saw a female Cog?

That's right, dreams do come true and we welcome this new addition to the gears family. I am glad that this female gamer deal is becoming the norm to the point where they are even adding them in shooters as choices. Congrats to all the female gamers out there. You deserve it!

We also saw the light of the double barrel shotty. That will be fun!

And last but not least the bearded Dom. I don't blame him for not cleaning up. The poor guy's been through a lot. He is probably still grieving his wife Maria:

Open Blur Demo By Next Week

According to the recent interview with Kotaku Bizzare Creations lead designer Gareth Wilson says that the developers ran out of keys much quicker than they anticipated and because of this they will open the beta to all Xbox 360 owners next week. The Blur Multiplayer Open Beta Demo will give you access to some of the game's multiplayer. Gareth also mentioned that because of time contraints it was difficult to do a demo on both the PS3 and Xbox at the same time. For our PS3 neighbors, check out the video after the break.

Problems? What Problems?

On March 30th, the day where the mapathy symptoms were supposed to go away it seemed that the very servers that would contain and support the Modern Warfare 2 stimulus package have failed us all; mostly. I took the time to download my package first thing on Tuesday and let the whole day pass believing that there would be challenges and boy talk about challenges! Based on the reports and twitters from all over the world this was an epic fail. Here are some of the challenges that some faced:

Unable to connect to games.
MS points were not registering.
xbox.com site was down for a while.
Puchased points from stores were not active at all.
Title update failed the first time around and another shot at the update had to be done.

and the list goes on and on. Few were able to play any games on the new playlist. But there is hope as they say. Hope comes in the form of giving players what they want. Hope starts with letting all the playlists have the new maps. Hope may take some of the sting away tomorrow. In the meantime, might I suggest some Modern Warfare 2 montages?

Halo Reach's Ranking System?

From what I have gathered Halo Reach's ranking system will be slightly different from the previous halos and will look more like a time vested system a la Modern Warfare-ish. Here's some info from the recent bungie update:

Rank - Rank as you knew it in Halo 3, is dead. The concept of Rank has been revamped and divorced entirely from Trueskill (more on that in a few paragraphs) and the concept of EXP (at both the Global and Playlist levels) has also been discarded.

In Halo: Reach, Rank is a global, cross-gameplay-mode-encompassing representation of the time you've spent in the game. So whether you're a Campaign-only guy, or a Matchmaking-only girl, or you swing both ways, you're going to be seeing that Rank advance as you keep playing.

Rank will increase over time as players earn more Credits. Credits are the lifeblood of the Player Investment system and they can be earned in all of Reach's gameplay modes, through a number of systems.

Finishing games and Winning Games in Matchmaking - For the purposes of the upcoming Public Beta, this is going to be a significant source of earning Credits. There are very clear constants in the ways that Credits are earned in Reach across game modes and at the heart of those constants is Time. In the long run, the majority of Credits will be earned from this bucket.

Commendations - Commendations are persistent, aggregating awards that will advance through gameplay. When players are progressing Commendations, they're going to be earning Credits - and when Commendations reach milestones, players will earn a bunch of additional Credits. Most importantly, Commendations serve as virtual scouting reports with information on what type of a player someone is, what weapons they use and what tricks they bring to the table. Commendations in matchmaking won't aggregate specific actions - like say, a Sniper Headshot - but instead, a Headshot. The Beta will have a small subset of Commendations at very limited levels of completion.

Challenges also contribute to Credit earn (among other things), but there's a question coming up about those later, so I'll save it.

Achievements - Spoilers! There will be Achievements in Reach and completing an Achievement will give you some small amount of Credits.

If you’re an Xbox Live player on Modern Warfare 2, there are some big updates hitting tomorrow (March 30th) in the early morning. Included in those are:

The Stimulus Package (Downloadable Content)

The first dlc for Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer hits exclusively first on Xbox Live. It’ll be coming to other platforms at a later date as well, but tomorrow morning you’ll be able to download the 5 new maps including Bailout, Salvage, Storm, and my favorite classic maps Crash and Overgrown.

Double XP

Originally planned to do it this weekend, but we’ve decided to throw the Double XP switch early when the new maps hit. So jump online with the new DLC and check out the two new DLC specific playlists.

Stimulus and Hardcore Stimulus Playlists

These two playlists are 100% dedicated to the new maps, and are Double XP enabled. So jump on and experienced the new DLC you downloaded, get double XP, and experience all your favorite gametypes along with some hardcore variants of them.

Ranger maps added to HCHQ

We’re adding a few maps to the Hardcore Headquarters Pro playlist on Xbox Live, allowing you now play all the Ranger maps in this gametype, something I know a lot of users have been asking for!

Title Update

Along side the DLC, but something ALL of our users will get, is a title update for Modern Warfare 2. Included in this update is support for the DLC (if you choose to purchase it), as well as some tweaks to the One Man Army perk, some matchmaking updates that will help our international users find more locally hosted games thanks to how ping is now sorted, and various other code updates that will help improve the overall quality of multiplayer on Modern Warfare 2.

There is no exact time you can expect all this, I’d say early morning when traffic is at its lowest, but by the time you wake up and get online I’m sure it will be available to most of you on March 30th! See you online all this week!

This morning I checked if there were any updates for the software on my G1 and lo and behold there was a google maps update. I added the update and now I have the feature to navigate now on my G1. Nav4all is great but I appreciate google's apps and services.

Gears of War 2 Title 5 Update due soon

I love gears of war 2. You wouldn't believe that if you checked the last time I played it. It's one of those games that you wish they can get more right than wrong. The title update should release anywhere between now and monday so look for it. Here are the list of fixes in the game:

Gears of War 1 roadie run camera is back
Security Vulnerability in game behavior is fixed
Turbo controllers no longer can be used
Competitive shield mantling is fixed

Hope this update comes out soon, maybe I might play gears this weekend after all.

Halo 3 ODST Truck Tour

Whether you are a Halo lover or Halo hater you can't help but notice a black shiny truck that says "Halo 3 ODST" when it hits your neighborhood. Twas the case for me and a buddy of mine when we got word that the Halo 3 ODST truck was set to hit North Babylon NY (which is its last tour stop). The truck was a sight to see; It was rugged, shiny and had a nice paint finish. Now before I even left my house I knew that the possibility of me playing was slim but that didn't stop me from going to take some shots at the truck. Check out the shots and the audio that I recorded while I was at the event.

Shadow Complex Achievements

So today I was set to get the 100% Items achievement in Shadow Complex. Last time I attempted this, I got the inertia element too late. This Time around I grabbed it early and was able to finished the game with the achievement with no problems. Also today I finished the proving grounds achievement which took some time but it was worth it. Finally I went for the minimalist achievement. I finished that in 1:05:38 with the items below:

Inertia Element
Grenade (infinite)
Foam (infinite)
Missiles (15 count)

The only Achievement that I have left is to level up to experience level 50 (serious complex).This is a gradual one for me and it will come with time. As of today, I'm currently 43/50.

Extra Life 2009 will take place on Saturday, October 17th, 2009 as gamers from all corners of the globe come together for a 24-hour video game marathon raising money to strike a blow against pediatric cancer. Last year, their first year, Extra Life raised more than $120,000 and was put together in just a couple of months. This year, they are starting early and throwing open the doors of Extra Life to anyone who wants to have fun while making a difference.
